🔒 How to Temporarily Deactivate Your Instagram Account

Temporarily deactivating your account hides your profile, photos, comments, and likes until you reactivate it by logging back in.

Steps:

  1. Open a web browser and go to the Instagram website.

  2. Log in to your account.

  3. Click your profile picture in the top right corner and select Profile.

  4. Click Edit Profile.

  5. Scroll down and click Temporarily disable my account.

  6. Select a reason for deactivation from the dropdown menu and re-enter your password.

  7. Click Temporarily Disable Account.

Your account will be hidden until you log back in. Note that you can only deactivate your account once a week.

🗑️ How to Permanently Delete Your Instagram Account

Permanently deleting your account will remove your profile, photos, videos, comments, likes, and followers. This action is irreversible.

Steps:

  1. Open a web browser and go to Instagram’s account deletion page.

  2. Log in to your account if prompted.

  3. Select a reason for deletion from the dropdown menu.

  4. Re-enter your password.

  5. Click Permanently delete my account.

Instagram may take up to 90 days to delete all your data. After that, you won't be able to recover your account or any of its content.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • You cannot deactivate or delete your account using the Instagram mobile app.

  • Before deleting your account, consider downloading a copy of your data, including photos and messages.

  • If you have a Threads account linked to Instagram, deleting your Instagram account will also delete your Threads account.
